Log your sets by speaking

Last updated: 2026-08-25

BodyLeveling lets you log a workout by speaking instead of typing. Say "bench press 3 sets of 8 at 80 kilos, then pull-ups 3 by 10" and the app parses the exercise, the number of sets, the reps and the load, shows you what it understood, and adds it to the session. Speech recognition runs on the device where iOS supports it, and workout logging is free on every plan.

Why speaking beats typing between sets

Logging a set is a five-second job that people skip anyway, because five seconds of tapping while your forearms are pumped and your phone is sweaty is genuinely annoying. The result is a training history full of gaps, and a training history with gaps cannot tell you whether you are progressing.

Speaking removes the friction. You finish a set, say what you did, and put the phone down.

What you can say

The parser is built around how people actually talk in a gym, not around a command syntax you have to memorize.

You say It logs
"Bench press 3 sets of 8 at 80 kilos" Bench press, 3 sets, 8 reps, 80 kg
"Squat 5 by 5 at 100" Squat, 5 sets, 5 reps, 100 kg
"80 kilos 8 times, 85 kilos 6 times" Two sets at different loads
"Pull-ups three sets of ten" Pull-ups, 3 sets, 10 reps, bodyweight

Several exercises in one breath work too: "bench press 3 sets of 8 at 80 kilos, then pull-ups 3 by 10".

It works in French

This is not an English feature with a translated button. The parser handles French gym phrasing natively, and speech recognition switches to fr-FR.

Exercise names are localized too. The catalog holds around 66 curated lifts with both English and French names plus the spoken variants people actually use.

Nothing is added until you confirm

After you stop talking, the app shows an Understood preview: the exercises, sets, reps and loads it extracted. You add them to the session with one tap.

Names the parser does not recognize are flagged in amber and kept verbatim rather than dropped or guessed at, so an unusual exercise name never costs you the set. You can rename it in the log afterwards.

What you get once the sets are in

Logged sessions are not just a diary. They feed:

  • Personal records across three kinds: heaviest weight, most reps, and estimated 1RM using the Epley formula. A new PR triggers a card and confetti when you save.
  • Per-exercise trend charts, so you can see a lift's load progression rather than trusting memory.
  • Weekly training volume: sessions, sets and total volume, shown on the Progress tab.
  • Prefilled next session. The editor opens with a "Last time" line so you know what you have to beat.

Free, on every plan

Workout logging is free. There is no subscription gate on typing or on voice. The Pro subscription covers the AI body scan analysis, weekly check-ins and the progress charts built from your scans.

Questions

Is voice workout logging free?

Yes. Logging workouts, by voice or by typing, is free for everyone. It does not require a subscription. The Pro subscription covers the body scan analysis, weekly check-ins and progress charts.

Which languages does the voice log understand?

English and French. The parser handles each language's natural gym phrasing, including spelled-out numbers, and speech recognition uses the matching locale, en-US or fr-FR.

Does my voice get sent to a server?

Speech recognition runs on the device where iOS supports it. BodyLeveling itself does not record or store audio; it works from the transcribed text and keeps only the sets you confirm.

What if it gets an exercise name wrong?

Names it does not recognize are flagged in amber and kept exactly as you said them, so nothing is lost. You can rename them in the log. You also see an Understood preview before anything is added, so a bad parse never silently becomes a bad record.

What if I cannot use my voice at the gym?

Type instead. Every voice sheet has a Type instead option, the editor prefills from your last session with a Last time line, and if speech recognition is unavailable on your device the app says so and falls back to typing.

100 or nothing.
