What an AI body scan is
An AI body scan estimates body composition from photographs. Instead of skinfold calipers, a tape measure or a DEXA appointment, a vision model looks at your silhouette and scores what it sees.
The useful output is not a single body fat percentage. It is a map: which muscle groups are ahead, which are behind, and by how much. That is the information that changes what you do in the gym on Monday.
How BodyLeveling's scan works
Step 1: three photos
Front, back and side, from the camera or your gallery. A hands-free mode lets you prop the phone about two metres away; the accelerometer detects when it is steady, gives you a positioning window, then fires through all three angles with a countdown.
Step 2: 14 muscle groups scored 0 to 100
Every group is rated against your goal, not against a generic ideal, and mapped onto a silhouette so the gaps are visible at a glance.

Scores fall into three bands: 70 and above is Strong, 45 to 69 is Developing, below 45 is Lagging. The bands are what drive exercise priority.
Step 3: one weighted goal score
The 14 scores roll up into a single number, weighted differently depending on what you are training for. It is called the Definition Score if you are losing fat, the Muscle Score if you are bulking, the Performance Score for athletic goals, and the Balance Score for recomposition.
Step 4: the plan
The scan returns 3 to 7 prioritized exercises with a rationale, sets and a rep range in the hypertrophy band of 8 to 15, each placed in the split you already train. Alongside it comes a daily calorie target from your goal and metabolism, foods to prioritize and limit, and a daily step target.
The first scan also returns your genetic traits: permanent structural facts about insertions, frame and proportions, with how to train around each.

This is the honest boundary. A photo scan is a comparison instrument. Its accuracy on any single absolute number matters less than its consistency across weeks, which is why the same lighting, distance and stance matter more than perfect conditions.
Why weekly, not daily
Body composition does not visibly change from Tuesday to Wednesday. Scanning daily produces noise that looks like progress or regression and is neither. The check-in window opens seven days after your last scan for exactly that reason.
Privacy
Your photos are uploaded over an encrypted connection, analyzed, then deleted from our storage once the analysis is saved. They are not kept and not used to train anything. There is no account, no email and no password: your identity is a random identifier generated on your phone. The full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

How accurate is an AI body scan?
A photo scan estimates visible muscle development and proportion. It is not a clinical body fat measurement and it is not a substitute for DEXA or hydrostatic weighing. Its value is consistency: the same method, the same angles and the same scale every week, which makes the change between scans meaningful even where the absolute number is an estimate.
What do I need for a good scan?
Even front-on lighting, about two metres from the camera with your whole body in frame, fitted or minimal clothing, a relaxed stance with arms slightly away from your body, and a plain background. Use the same spot and the same time of day every week.
What happens to my photos?
They are uploaded over an encrypted connection, analyzed, then deleted from our storage once the analysis is saved. The copies on your phone stay on your phone and power the before and after comparison.
How often should I scan?
Once a week. Body composition does not visibly change day to day, so a weekly rhythm makes the comparison meaningful instead of noisy. The check-in unlocks again seven days after your last scan.
Is an AI body scan a medical test?
No. BodyLeveling gives educational fitness guidance. It is not a medical device, it does not diagnose anything, and it does not replace a doctor or a registered dietitian.
